For me, it was The Secret Garden- the book I read as a child that still has the power to make me believe in magic. I know this is the one that will be in my daughter's heart for life, she loves the Doll People books so much! We have read both of them twice already, and she is hoping and praying there will be a third. They really are wonderful; there is an abundance of humor, mystery and drama to keep any child hooked. The illustrations are fantastic- the best I've ever seen in a chapter book. Highly recommended- from both mother and daughter!Tags : The Doll People Collection - Boxed Set : The Doll People and The Meanest Doll in the World on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. ever scince I got them for Chrishtmas.... And that was two years ago! they're still my favorite classics!
Shes disappointed because she wants more books to this series and there are none! She LOVES these books and read "the doll people" in 2 days (shes only 9) becasue she just couldn't put it down. Hopefully there will be more to come!
the doll people is a vary good adventure I love this book its long and has a series that I can relate to in some of ththe problems in the book😍😍😍😍
The authors of The Doll People and its sequel are Ann M. Martin and Laura Godwin. The dolls go on adventures. The Papa gets taken by the cat and the dolls have to save him. The dolls' names are Annabelle, Bobby,
Mama doll, Papa doll, Nanny, Auntie Sara, Uncle doll, Tiffany, Mom, Dad, Bailey and Baby Britney. They're in the house of the Palmers and the owner of the dolls names are Nora and Kate Palmer.
My favorite part is when Annabelle finds the Funcrafts. Well the book starts out with Annabelle talking about her life. And even if you don't like the first part you will like the rest. The book is very entertaining and full of surprises. The person who would like this book is someone who would like going on explorations.

The 2 stories told in these books are just wonderful. My seven year old daughter couldn't get enough of the Doll Family and their wacky neighbors. The first book, The Doll People, is full of adventure as the dolls try to find their missing aunt (also a doll, of course), escape a cat, keep family secrets, and encounter spiders. A wonderful story. The 2 main characters are very different, as one is a doll that belongs in a house that has been passed down through generations, and the other one is a new plastic family. Yet, they quickly become best friends willing to risk all to help each other. In the second book, The Meanest Doll in the World, the 2 best friend dolls have to deal with a meanie, and still stay friends, and stay true to their girl.
Beautifully written, the complex plot enchanted not only my daughter, but my husband and myself.
A must read for all!!
My daughter loves The Doll People and read it over the span of a week as she found the storyline to be interesting with lots of mystery and suspense, and of course, a high sense of adventure. The Doll family have been around for more than a hundred years, traveling all the way from England on a ship to the United States sometime in the late 1800s. Annabelle Doll has been eight years old for a long time, living in her dollhouse with the rest of her family, i.e. Papa Doll, Mama Doll, Uncle Doll, her brother Bobby, Nanny, and adopted doll Betsy. Annabelle's life has been quite happy, but she feels a yearning for adventure. An opportunity presents itself when she finds an old journal that used to belong to Auntie Sarah, who was part of the Doll family, but went missing a long time ago. Annabelle wants to go look for Auntie Sarah, but many of her family members are fearful - what if Annabelle were discovered, and what if this caused her to go into Permanent Doll State, where she would remain a regular doll (without the ability to speak or move about) for the rest of her days?
Intrepid Annabelle decides to take the risk anyway, and is accompanied by Uncle Doll, who is supportive of her. On their first trip out of the dollhouse, the pair come across a box containing another family of dolls called the Funcrafts, and this is where the adventure truly takes off.
I think part of why this story fascinates my daughter is because she loves playing make-believe with her dolls in her dollhouse, so reading this story gives her imagination full rein to think up all sorts of new story lines to play with.
The Meanest Doll in the World is the second book in the series and a follow-up to The Doll People. The two main characters in the series are Annabelle Doll, a china doll that is more than a hundred years old, and Tiffany, a Funcraft doll who is more recent and made of plastic. Annabelle lives with the Doll family (Mama, Papa, Uncle, Auntie Sarah, Nanny, and Baby Betsy) in an antique dollhouse that has been in the Palmer family for generations. The Doll family are living dolls, i.e. they can talk and move, but they are very careful about not being seen doing this by humans or risk going into Permanent Doll State, where they will be back to regular, lifeless dolls. Life for the Doll family becomes more exciting with the arrival of the Funcraft dolls, and the two families eventually form a close friendship (more on this in the first book).
In this book, both Annabelle and Tiffany have become best friends and like going exploring together. One day, they find themselves being transported in Kate's (the older girl in the Palmer family who has inherited the Doll family) backpack to Kate's school. Though the dolls have a fun time, they miss home and try to make their way back but accidentally get into another child's backpack and end up in a different home. This is where they encounter Mimi, the meanest and most cruel doll. What is to become of Annabelle and Tiffany, and will they ever find their way back to the Palmer's?
The Doll People series of books are well-written, imaginative stories that keep the reader interested in what is going to happen next. There is an appropriate level of suspense and thrills, and the pencil drawings by Brian Selznick (who wrote the remarkable The Invention of Hugo Cabret) enhance the story. I highly recommend this series to children who are ready to read chapter books with a more challenging vocabulary - recommended for independent readers ages 6-10.
The doll people series had my daughter's and me captivated. I read them out loud and they would beg me not to stop. So good.
